4 Inspiring TED Talks for Passionate Educators

June 11, 2019

Great educators leave lasting impressions.

We all have a story or two up our sleeves of our favourite teacher who went above and beyond to support, nurture and inspire us. A great educator has the power to positively shape young minds and change lives for the better.

So, with this in mind, we dug up 4 of our all-time favourite TED Talks from some of the most inspirational educators across the globe.

Build grit

What's the key to success? Well, as it turns out, it's not necessarily about having the highest IQ or the ability to quickly retain a lot of information. According to Angela Lee Duckworth, the greatest predictor of success all comes down to grit.

Grit means sustaining passion and perseverance for your long-term goals and working hard to achieve them every day. So, how do you build grit, install strong work ethics and encourage students to stay motivated? Press play on Angela's talk to find out.

Cultivate curiosity

After 10 years of pseudo-teaching, a life-threatening condition spurred high school science teacher, Ramsey Musallam, into taking a new teaching approach. In his talk, Ramsey walks us through the 3 rules his brain surgeon taught him, which he now uses to engage, inspire, and cultivate curiosity in his classroom.

Create magic

What do rap shows, barbershop banter and Sunday church services all have in common? You'd be forgiven for thinking nothing, but Dr Christopher Emdin will tell you that they actually hold the secret to being able to combine teaching and enthralling. This talk is all about finding the magic in every lesson and engaging students through effective communication andthepower of storytelling.

Be a champion

We saved one of our all time favourite education TED Talks for last. Rita F. Pierson's talk is a raw and honest account of the crucial role educators play in connecting with their students on a personal level, lifting them up to be the best they can be, and never giving up.
